Lately, I've been feeling down and there would be days where I would just stay in my bed scrolling through my phone for hours. I was unmotivated and had nothing to look forward to. However, with a little bit of pushing I was able to get myself out of that slump and now I'm here to share my tips.
1. Make Your Bed

If you're like me then I'm assuming you're sitting on your phone reading this. So as soon as you get done, get up! Get out of your bed. Make it up. It'll take you thirty seconds to do and last until it's actually time for bed. When that bed is all made, you'll feel more energized and productive. Maybe, now is a good time to get started on that laundry or cleaning.
2. Get a Hobby

Getting a hobby is a great way to find motivation. By doing something you're good at, you start to feel successful and more motivated. Recently, I've been getting into sewing and upcycling old clothing. It feels awesome to come out with a finished product that I can call my own. What can you start doing today?
3. Learn a Language

Learning a language can be tons of fun. There are loads of benefits to immersing yourself into a language and its culture. I've been picking up on French and it's amazing. I could ramble on and on about the beauty of France and its boys (ooh la la) but I'll save you your time. What I've been doing is practicing my writing and pronunciation every morning. Some good things to start with are the top 1000 words in a language, conjugations, and tenses. Quizlet has also been a huge resource since you can easily swipe through virtual flashcards and there are hundreds of sets to study from. Now go out and be a bilingual legend!
4. Call Up Your Friends
Even if you can't be social in person, there are still numerous ways to connect with people. Maybe distance or schedules have separated you from your friends but no need to worry. Simply hop on your phone and set up a FaceTime or phone call. You can actually talk with the person instead of quick little text messages. And if you're feeling down, it's always a good idea to have someone to vent to.
5. Throw a Party / Girls or Guys' Night
But if you can hang out in person, do it! Plan a party at the pool or hang out at the movies. Having a girls' night is a blast! I actually prefer it over more co-ed type events. Because as much as I love my friends, I don't love the "ohhh so uhhh jeremy? what classes are you taking next year? *wink wink*". Anyways, hanging out with positive happy people is a great way to jump out of your slump.
6. Self-Care Night

My absolute favorite thing to do when I'm down is take care of me. I forget the rest of the world as I bathe in lavender epsom salts and paint my nails. So if you can't have a girls' night, have a you night. Personally, I like to use face scrubs, curl my hair, do my makeup, etc. But you can do whatever because this is YOUR night!
7. Selfie Time!

Now that you're all dolled up from your self care night, go take some selfies! Something about taking that perfect picture fills me with so much confidence. Sometimes I even get a little carried away with my selfie taking. But it's all worth it because I feel great and motivated!
8. Watch Motivational Videos
If I'm still not to the point where I want to get up, I'll hop over to YouTube and learn. I love checking out Prince Ea's videos or Yes Theory. Psych2Go also gives a ton of good tips on what may be causing your problems and how to fix them. I also love watching travel videos to motivate me to make the effort to go there someday. DamonAndJo anyone?
9. Do NOT Worry About the Future
As a high school student, I constantly get swept up in the future. "Where will I go to college? What do I want to study? Do I want to go to college? What kind of job will I have?" and much more. But real talk, no one knows the answers to these questions. Everyone's just as confused and scared of the future as you are. So stay calm, breathe, and relax because I promise everything will be okay.
10. Be an Activist
So instead of thinking about what you can do in the future, think about what you can do NOW. So many things are wrong in the world. These problems can be fixed but not without your help. You can become an activist for human rights, the environment, animals, and much much more. Research some ways you can help out in your community. Become a volunteer at the local animal shelter or help build homes with Habitat for Humanity. When you help others, you're helping yourself be a better person and who knows... maybe solving one of their problems will teach you how to solve your own.
I hope you enjoyed this and finished reading with a smile and hope. You are completely capable of so much and you better go do it! So... what are you waiting for?
