Now that it's summer and I've been running out of ways to waste my time, I decided to try to dedicate my time to something more than scrolling through twitter. My goal was to create three completely different outfits from three completely different thrifted pieces. So I woke up early one morning, grabbed some clothing I had stored, and turned on my sewing machine.

I started off with this over-sized "midi" skirt that definitely gave me some nineties Cher from Clueless vibes. And what better way to capture that movie than by a mini skirt and scrunchie? So that's exactly what I did.

I used my trusty mannequin, Paula (Yes, I named an inanimate object. Get with it.), to take in some on the sides. I also performed my trusty squat-n-snip to cut the length I wanted it.

I took in the side seams and thankfully, there was a zipper already sewn into the other side. I hemmed the edges and that was it for the skirt.

Then, I cut out a rectangle of my leftover fabric and folded it in half right sides together. I sewed down the open side and turned it rightside-out. Next, I took an old hair elastic and cut it. I used a safety pin to thread the elastic through the fabric tube and scrunched it up. I sewed it closed and boom, first outfit done.

My next item was a giant maxi skirt. There was so much fabric that I wanted to make a tub top and shorts set, however, I just settled with some paperbag shorts.

I kept the waistband in tact but cut the shorts into four separate pieces. Sewing the legs in and center seams, I went to go try them on. The waistband was a little delicate and it didn't give me the feel I wanted. So, I made a cute tie strap to go around my waist.

My last piece was a lacy pink skirt that I turned around to use the zipper as a v-neck. (Pretty creative, if I do say so myself.)

I wanted to gather the center to give it a more proper look, but it just ended up looking chunky so I took it out and moved on to the straps.

I originally wanted the straps to be with the same lace but I took the easy way out and went with ribbon instead. Just sewing the straps was a pain due to the thread constantly getting caught.
I was done! All three pieces had been made. It was time to go outside and practice my mediocre modeling skills as I walked down the runway that is my backyard.

And that's it for today! Hope you enjoyed and found some inspiration to try new things because who knows it might just be your new talent. As always, lots of love...
